How much is the contract and phone activation for the iPhone 3G S at the apple store or AT&T store?

Okay so i’m wanting to get the iPhone 3G S Really badly and my parents are saying that to activate it at the store is like around 400 dollars?? is that true? what about contract? and can i get all that with 1,000 dollars????

if you upgrade your contract, the iphone will be $199 plus tax and if your a new customer, there will be a $36 activation fee. If your not a new customer, there will be no activation fee. You will need the account holder present to authorize the contract upgrade. Be prepared to pay for the phone with cash unless your parents allow you to pay for it on their credit card
